Vanity is not a dirty word!

It's official...I'm 40. I am determined to embrace this new chapter of my life, and am excited to see what the next decade has in store for me in terms of my Rodan + Fields skincare business that's launching in Canada August 2014.

Most of us start our skincare regimen once we start seeing those pesky wrinkles and age spots caused by sun damage...but the truth is, no matter the number of candles on your birthday cake, it’s never too early, or too late, to begin a healthy skin regimen.

If you’re a Millennial, adding an anti-aging skincare such as Rodan + Fields REDEFINE regimen, to your daily skincare regimen can help preserve your youthful-looking complexion. Most importantly don't forget the sunscreen. Age spots are caused by sun damage, so if you want to avoid those sun spots early on...wear sunscreen.

Protecting your skin from the sun doesn't mean you can’t achieve a sun-kissed glow the healthy way. Rodan + Fields Foaming Sunless Tanner is  oil-free, mess-free, applies easily and dries quickly. Click here for tips on achieving the best results with this product.

If you’re a Generation X or Y and are beginning to experience dullness, brown spots or lines and wrinkles, start a skincare regimen such as Rodan + Fields REVERSE Regimen combined
with the REDEFINE Macro Exfoliator

The REVERSE Regimen erases the appearance of premature aging, including brown spots, dullness and discoloration. This regimen exfoliates, visibly brightens, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and defends against sun exposure for a long-term solution for a radiant complexion.

Combine this regimen by using the REDEFINE MACRO Exfoliator™ once a week to sweep away dead skin cells leaving behind a smoother, healthier-looking and more luminous complexion.

“Vanity” is not a dirty word. It means looking after yourself and striving to be the best you can be!

How Your Emotions Affect Your Aging Skin

Rodan + Fields

The saying "laughter is the best medicine" actually has some medical validity. Studies show that our emotions can have positive and negative consequences on our bodies, and affect the appearance of our skin. Your moods and outlook have the greatest impact on how you look, and how others perceive you.

Stress

Out of all the emotions, stress is youth's biggest enemy. That's because it's the biggest simulator of the hormone cortisol, which flows freely through your system in times of stress. Your blood vessels become more fragile, new skin cells don't form as quickly, and cell turnover may eventually slow by half causing your skin to age.

When you're feeling stressed avoid eating junk and alcohol. Often in stressful time we head right for the chocolate or martini. Doing this can show in the dehydration so instead reach for some veggies and water. We also have a tendency to forget that our skincare during stressful times. It's during these times when you shouldn't neglect your skin... a poor diet and spotty skincare can spell breakout trouble for the acne-prone.

Rodan + Fields REVERSE Regimen is available in Canada August 2014

During stressful times I continue to use my favorite skincare regimen REVERSE by Rodan + Fields (available in Canada August 2014). It helps to clean the slate and keep my skin feeling great and looking youthful during stressful times.

Anger

It's unavoidable...we all get angry at times. But did you know that anger makes your facial muscles tense, which over time gives you wrinkles and lines.

Feelings of anger can also affect how your skin rejuvenates and heals. Researchers attributed this to high levels of cortisol present in people who are quick to anger, which inhibits the product of collagen, a crucial element of skin healing, and a cause of wrinkling when production slows. So the saying "Don't sweat the small stuff"...will not only help decrease your anger, but keep you skin looking youthful too!

Depression
Much like anger, sadness weighs heavily on our face, and can cause wrinkles from repetitively frowning and furrowing brows.

Long term depression n can prevent your body from repairing inflammation in cells. These hormones affect sleep, which will show on your face in the form of baggy, puffy eyes and a dull or lifeless complexion.

Rodan + Fields REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream is available in Canada August 2014

For baggy puffy eyes I use Rodan + Fields Multi-Function Eye Cream. It is by far my favorite Rodan + Fields Product. It combines powerful peptides to minimize the appearance of crow’s-feet, helps reduce the appearance of both puffiness and dark under eye circles while special optical diffusers noticeably brighten the eye area. Not only is this product clinically proven it's also Ophthalmologist tested. It is ideal for maintaining the delicate skin around the eyes.

Embarrassment

Embarrassment can move from your brain to your skin, when neuropeptide receptors in skin receive messages, causing you to blush. Blushing easily and frequently can be precursor to the chronic swollen blood vessel condition known as rosacea. A great product for Rosacea is Rodan + Fields SOOTHE.

Skincare Is Your Best Fashion Accessory

anti-age

When thinking of accessories most of us think of a snappy necklace, cute earrings or a great bracelet...but we rarely think of our skin as a fashion accessory.

Just like fashion accessories our skin is forever changing. Our skin changes over time due to environmental factors and biologic changes, such as climate, lifestyle and age.

The difference is that fashions fade...but your skin lasts a lifetime, which is why it can be your best accessory if you take care of it properly.

With every passing year, your skin functions a little bit differently. When you're young your skin renews itself every month. That’s why young skin always looks so bright and fresh.

Over time, skin cell turnover slows down so that by the time you're in your 40's, it could take 50 days or more for your skin to rejuvenate.

Wooooaaahhh...I know. Since I'm approaching 40 this year I'll share with you my secrets for keeping my skin looking bright and fresh.

It's really important to incorporate regular exfoliation into your daily skincare routine, along with a good macro-exfoliation once a week, to assist the natural shedding process and reveal newer, fresher skin cells.

My favorite routine is the use Rodan + Fields REVERSE Regimen daily combined with Rodan + Fields Macro-Exfoliator once a week. (Both will be available in Canada August 2014)

We all know that aging is inevitable...but it’s your daily behaviors that influence 80% of how you you age, only 20% is hereditary.

Everything from sun exposure, smoking and alcohol to diet, stress and sleep plays a critical role in shaping the future of your skin. That’s why it’s important to complement your skincare routine with healthy habits like daily sun protection, sleeping on your back and wearing sunglasses.

Following this skincare regimen will help to keep your
skin looking young, healthy and luminous which is a fashion statement that never goes out of style!

Why Women are Leaving the Corporate World for Direct Sales

Since I have decided join a  Direct Selling organization I have been doing a lot of research on Direct Selling and have found more and more women are choosing to leave the Corporate world and enter the world of Direct Selling. After speaking with other women in other Direct Selling organizations, this is what I have come up with.
The Corporate Grind - blah, blah, blah
In the 1970’s and 1980’s,  women fell in  love with their new-found independence and the opportunity join the corporate world with the same respect as men. Many of these women paved the way for women in the corporate world now and should be applauded!  But today’s working women is just as happy to pull on her LuLuLemons and avoid the dreaded commute. Instead of dealing with office politics, professional women are falling in love with the opportunity to be their own boss, having control over their schedules, and power over their annual income.

Work-Life Balance
As a mom and full time employee in the corporate world, I have had to sacrifice many things. Missing my son's school fields trips or plays or missing work when he is sick. Having more control over our schedules, and more time for ourselves or our families is one of the strongest motivators for women to start a network marketing business. I love the idea of being able to attend my son's hockey games, or take a break from my business to squeeze in a yoga class. Network marketing is one of those rare opportunities where we can truly have it all.
Working As Part of a Team
Most career women have worked in team environments, so the idea of leaving that kind of environment to start a business all alone is scary. I am a social person and absolutely love working as part of a team. Network marketing and direct sales offers the perfect blend, where women have full say in how they build their businesses, along with the opportunity to collaborate and receive on-going support from others.

Choose Who You Work With
Many of us have at one point dealt with a difficult boss or negative coworkers. One of the most enticing factors about direct sales is the level of choice of who your work with. As your own business, you have the final say with who work with every day, whether it's a a new customer, or new business partner. Being a "yes" woman for a boss you don't respect is something of the past!

Rewards and Incentives
Many Direct Selling companies make a huge effort to recognize and reward their consultants. They value you and your contributions, and aren’t afraid to show it. The great thing about direct selling is that Incentives are often offered at every level of business development, not just for the top sellers. Many rewards and incentives include things like cash bonuses, jewelry, exciting trips, and even cars...simply for doing a job you love, and making an income in the process. How great is that?

Low Start Up Costs
Many direct selling companies have very low start up costs, and give you a few choices of packages you want to buy for your start-up. In addition a true direct selling organization has very little overhead month to month. The internet has really helped cut these costs even further. Customers can buy directly from you over the internet from anywhere in the country, without you having to spend any of your own money upfront.

Level Playing Field
Sadly in the year 2014, women in most professions are still being paid less than male employees, in similar positions. Although great progress has been made over the years the playing field still isn't equal. Direct sales offers a complete level playing field, where it really doesn't matter which gender you are. With 82% of the direct selling profession made up of women, more and more are rising to the top, claiming multi-six and seven figure annual incomes in the process, and modeling a new way of creating fantastic incomes for women across the world.

Savvy women everywhere are looking for the opportunity to escape the corporate world and and enter into a new rewarding career path in direct sales...and I am one of them.

Rodan + Fields is coming to Canada in August 2014. I will be one of the first consultants in Canada. Ask yourself this question...if you had the opportunity to partner with the same docotrs who created Proactiv 10 years ago, knowing what you know now about the product would you? Imagine if you had been the first to represent Mary Kay, or Avon in Canada...can you imagine where you would be now?

I would love the opportunity to connect and chat about what motivates you and together we can see if Rodan + Fields is the right fit for you.

Let's connect, I would love for you to send me a personal message at sueandpaul.rfcanada@gmail.com.

Together we can achieve great things.

Skincare is like the Little Black Dress

Rodan and Fields

With Spring finally here and Summer just around the corner, every new season brings new fashion.

We’ve all succumbed to that “look of the moment”… only to find our fashion is quickly replaced by a new fashion trend. Except for the true classics found in every woman's closet - the classic little black dress.

What most of us don’t realize is, the same can be said about skincare.

When it comes to creating lasting, natural-looking, real results, the best solutions don't come from the latest skincare fad, but from clinically proven, time-tested ingredients with scientific discoveries that truly deliver.

The skincare ingredients that you should thin of as your little black dress are:

  • Retinol
  • Alpha-hydroxy acid
  • Peptides
  • Antioxidants, and
  • Sunscreens

Rodan + Fields skincare is clinically proven and developed by world renowned Dermatologists Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields (makers of Proactiv - the most famous acne skincare regimen on the planet).

Here is the regimen I recommend that is clinically proven and like your little black dress will remain classic.

REDEFINE Regimen combined with Macro Exfoliator

The REDEFINE regimen is a comprehensive skincare regimen that layers cosmetic ingredients and proven peptide technology to help defend against and reduce the visible signs of aging for noticeably firmer, smoother, flawless-looking skin.

I also like to combine this regimen by using the Macro-Exfoliator once a week. This hand-held, personal use exfoliation tool sweeps away dead skin cells leaving behind a smoother, healthier-looking and more luminous complexion.

It features technology, developed and programmed by Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields, to vary the degree and duration of macro-exfoliation based on facial area. It's clinically proven to visibly improve skin texture after only one use.

Avoid the latest fads and stick with classic products like Rodan + Fields that have clinically-proven results and success stories with real-world “before and after” examples.

While the “look of the moment” is here today, your best fashion accessory - your skin - needs to last for a lifetime.

Looking for that sun-kissed look?... Have I got the product for you!

With summer just around the corner tanning salons have lots of specials on to get that sun kissed look. But if you're thinking of going “under the lamp”...think again.

Yes going to the tanning salon will get you a nice tan, but possibly a whole lot more than you bargained for.

According to a recent study in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology, tanning beds often harbor traces of fecal matter and other bacteria that can lead to infections. Along with the serious risk of skin cancer and premature aging.

If you are looking for a sun-kissed glow, opt for a sunless tanner. Your skin will thank you. My favorite sunless tanner is Rodan + Fields Essentials Foaming Sunless Tanner (available in Canada in August 2014)

I love this lightweight sunless tanner because it doesn't leave streaks like other sunless tanners I've used.
Its effective dual-active formula leaves your skin , natural-looking without exposure to the harmful UVA and UVB rays. It contains antioxidant vitamins A, C and E which protect your skin from radical damage.

All Rodan + Fields products will be available in Canada in August 2014. Stay tuned for details about the Rodan + Fields Canadian launch coming in August 2014. If you would like more information on Rodan + Fields products or the business opportunity feel free to send me a direct message at sueandpaul.rfcanada@gmail.com.

A True Beauty - Audrey Hepburn

skincare

Ever since I was a little girl and watched my all time favorite movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I have loved Audrey Hepburn. Today she would have been 85, so I thought I would dedicate my post to her since she is still such a huge icon and represents beauty in every aspect.

The Audrey Hepburn Look was first inspired when she graced the cover of Time Magazine in 1953. The elegant Audrey Hepburn look is still a mark of classy and classic femininity to this day.

Audrey HepburnHubert de Givenchy is responsible for creating the Audrey Hepburn style - particularly the little black dress - that would inspire women’s fashions for decades.

When told that he’d design a dress for “Ms. Hepburn” for the movie Sabrina in 1954, Givenchy mistakenly believed it would be for Katherine Hepburn, and expressed some disappointment when he found out that it wasn’t. But in classic Audrey Hepburn style she won him over, forging a friendship and collaboration on fashion that would last for the rest of her life.

The most recognizable style was the iconic Givenchy black dress Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), a film inspired by a Truman Capote novella.

Hepburn won an Academy Award in 1953 for the movie and stole the hearts of audiences and critics worldwide.

Oscar

Audrey was born Audrey Kathleen Ruston in 1929 in Brussels, Belgium.

Not many people know this but Audrey Hepburn didn’t have an easy childhood. She endured many hardships during WWII. During the German occupation of the Netherlands, she suffered from malnutrition, anemia and respiratory issues. Her family barely had enough food to survive.

Many years later Audrey reflected on her youth to recognize that many others had it much worse than she did by saying “I have memories. More than once I was at the station seeing trainloads of Jews being transported, seeing all these faces over the top of the wagon. I remember, very sharply, one little boy standing with his parents on the platform, very pale, very blond, wearing a coat that was much too big for him, as he stepped on to the train. I was a child observing a child.”

She had a knack for languages (she was fluent in English, Dutch, French, Spanish and Italian) and a natural aptitude for dance. When her family moved to Amsterdam, she took ballet lessons with Sonia Gaskell, one of the greatest Dutch ballerinas. Although very talented, at 5’7” Audrey was considered too tall to become a first-rate ballerina at the time.

beauty

Audrey’s childhood helped increase her empathy. When she left her successful movie career to focus on her family and humanitarian issues, Audrey became a Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF.

UnicefEven four months before her death she was quoted as saying “Taking care of children has nothing to do with politics. I think perhaps with time, instead of there being a politicization of humanitarian aid, there will be a humanization of politics.”

Audrey Hepburn still has a universal appeal. There was something about her beauty that was childlike and unthreatening to women.

She had a unique and astonishing form of beauty, intelligence, kindness, modesty and class.

Ultimately, it’s not the roles she played that made her an enduring cultural icon, but who she was as a person…and this is why I love Audrey Hepburn.
